What do you need?

Ironwood Roofing Co. tarps storm-damaged roofs across Omaha the same day, usually within hours while the office is open. Tarping costs $300 to $600 and is credited toward the repair if we do the work.

We tarp first and estimate second. Once the roof is dry, you get dated photos of every slope in a report you can send straight to your insurer.

We handle hail, wind and fallen-limb damage to shingle and metal roofs. We do not remove trees, we do not do interior water restoration, and we do not negotiate insurance claims on your behalf.

What to do in the first 24 hours

Stop the water, then document. Do not get on the roof yourself.

  • Catch the water inside. A bucket and a towel under the drip. Poke a small hole in a bulging ceiling so it drains in one place.
  • Take photos from the ground. The roof, the gutters, anything dented. Include a wide shot with the date.
  • Call for a tarp. A tarp today prevents the interior damage that makes a claim complicated.
  • Call your insurer. Open the claim and ask what they need. We send the photo report when you are ready.

What hail and wind do to a roof

Hail bruises shingles and wind breaks their seals. Neither always leaks on day one, which is why it gets missed.

  • Hail bruising. Granules knocked off and a soft spot underneath. One-inch hail is where roof damage usually starts.
  • Creased tabs. Wind lifts a shingle and folds it. The crease becomes a crack.
  • Dented vents and flashing. Soft metal shows hail size clearly and helps an adjuster date the storm.
  • Punctures. From limbs or debris. These are the ones that leak immediately.

Working with your insurance company

Your policy decides what is covered, and only your insurer can tell you. Our part is making sure the damage is fully documented.

  • A dated photo report. Every slope, with damage marked and counted per test square.
  • On the roof with the adjuster. We point out what we found so nothing is missed. The adjuster makes the call.
  • No promises about outcomes. We do not waive deductibles and we do not guarantee approval. Nebraska law does not allow the first, and nobody can honestly offer the second.

If the roof needs replacing, the options and prices are on roof replacement in Omaha.

How a storm call works

Call and a person answers during business hours. After hours, leave a message and the on-call crew lead calls back.

  1. 1You call. We ask where the water is coming in and whether the roof is safe to reach.
  2. 2We tarp. Anchored with boards, not just nails through the tarp.
  3. 3We inspect and photograph. Usually the same visit if the roof is dry enough to walk.
  4. 4You get the report. Photos and a written scope within one business day.
  5. 5We repair or replace. Scheduled once you, and your insurer if there is a claim, have approved the scope.

What storm repair costs

Tarping is a fixed range and is credited toward the repair. Repairs are quoted after the inspection.

What moves the number most:

  • How much of the roof was hit. A few shingles is a repair. Damage on every slope is usually a replacement.
  • Shingle availability. Discontinued shingles cannot be matched, which can change the scope.
  • Decking damage. Punctures often break the board underneath.

Our prices do not change after a storm. If you have a claim, your out-of-pocket cost is set by your policy and deductible.

Why homeowners choose Ironwood Roofing Co.

  • A person answers.

During business hours you reach the office, not a call center in another state.

  • We live here.

After a hailstorm, out-of-town crews arrive for a month and leave. Our warranty has a local address.

  • Tarps that stay on.

Boarded at the edges, checked again if the repair is more than a week out.

  • Straight talk about claims.

We document. Your insurer decides. Anyone who promises otherwise is guessing.

Storm Damage Repair questions we get asked

How fast can you tarp a roof after a storm?

Usually within hours while the office is open, and the same day in most cases. During a large hail event the schedule fills quickly, so call as soon as you see water. After hours, leave a message and the on-call crew lead calls back.

How do I know if hail damaged my roof?

From the ground, check gutters, downspouts and window screens for dents and look for granules at the bottom of downspouts. On the roof, hail leaves round soft spots where granules are missing. One-inch hail is where damage usually starts. An inspection is free and takes about 45 minutes.

Should I call my insurance company or a roofer first?

Call a roofer for a tarp if water is coming in, then call your insurer. For damage that is not leaking, either order works. An inspection first tells you whether there is enough damage to be worth a claim against your deductible.

Will a storm claim raise my premium?

Only your insurer can answer that, and it varies by company and policy. Hail is generally treated as a weather event rather than an at-fault claim, but ask your agent directly before you file.

How long do I have to file a hail claim in Nebraska?

Your policy sets the deadline, commonly one year from the date of the storm, and some policies are shorter. Check the policy or call your agent. Do not rely on a roofer's memory of the rule, including ours.

What neighbors say

Rated 4.9 from 212 reviews on Google

  • “They sent photos of every slope before they sent a price. The estimate had three options and nobody pushed the top one. Tear-off and new roof done in a day and a half.”

    Dana R. · Papillion · Google review

Owner reply: Thank you, Dana. Glad the photos made the decision easier.

  • “Hail took out half the block in June. Ironwood tarped ours the same afternoon and met the adjuster on the roof the next week. Clear about what they could and could not promise.”

    Marcus T. · Omaha · Google review

Owner reply: Appreciate it, Marcus. We will be back for the gutter guards in spring.

  • “Called about a leak over the kitchen. It was a cracked pipe boot, not the whole roof. $380 and forty minutes. They could have sold me more and did not.”

    Priya S. · Elkhorn · Google review

Owner reply: Thanks, Priya. Most leaks are small. Glad it was a quick one.
